Both men and women struggle with a gradually declining sex drive as they age. This struggle becomes more prominent by the age of 55. By this age nearly all men have experienced some sort of erectile dysfunction and many women are struggling with hormone changes due to menopause. Luckily, there are steps that can be taken to help shift libido and to provide sexual rejuvenation despite these difficulties.
There are quite a few different approaches to go about sexual rejuvenation for men and women after the age of 55. These approaches range from supplements, to hormone replacement, to medical procedures such as carboxytherapy.
Supplements
The least invasive approach to help reignite your sex drive is supplements to help manage the body’s hormones and nutrient intake. The following supplements use Chronobiology formulas. Chronobiology uses the body’s natural timing and rhythm for optimal nutrient intake and use.
MENOCHRON® is a supplement for women over the age of 45. This product is based on special plant extracts with estrogen-like properties to help support natural menopausal symptoms. These estrogen- like extracts work similarly to estrogen within the body. It also works to promote healthy fat and sugar metabolism, support healthy bones, and to fight free radicals. These morning and night capsules are designed to meet the body’s needs throughout the day. This supplement can be implemented into your daily diet to help maintain hormonal balance.
ANDROCHRON® is a supplement for men over the age of 50. This plant based chronobiological formula helps to support healthy testosterone levels and to protect prostate health. It helps to promote healthy muscle mass, endurance levels, mental fitness, and libido. This supplement contains a unique combination of vital ingredients designed for optimal efficiency and absorbency to be implemented into your daily diet.
Hormone Replacement
Many issues with a decreased libido or sexual desire stem from a hormone imbalance. Bioidentical or bioequivalent are terms used to describe the technical molecular structure of hormones that are an exact copy of what your body makes. Hormones are not all created equally or the same. By making hormones that are bioidentical to your own, the body recognizes the hormone and the possible negative side effects are much less. Another alternative to this is a “synthetic” hormone that is often greatly altered chemically and affects the body differently. This alternative has a large chance of possible side effects and disease.
There are five different delivery methods for hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Each method has its ups and downs.
The patch is placed on the skin to deliver the hormone. An upside to this method is that the levels are kept consistent for around three to four days. A downside to this method is that the patch must be used twice weekly and can cause allergies to the adhesive.
The creams and gels deliver hormones through the skin. An upside to this method is that the hormones will bypass the liver and go straight into the body. A downside to this method is that the hormone levels can be inconsistent.
By taking oral medication the hormone can be compounded for us. One pro to this is that by taking the hormones orally the absorbability is high and convenient. One con is that oral medication can have extreme variability in hormone levels.
Small pellets are surgically placed under the skin to deliver hormones constantly. One upside to this is that the hormone is consistently delivered in a steady stream. One downside to this is that this is a surgical procedure with a few days of recovery time.
These are shots of hormones within the body’s muscle. A pro for this is the ability to adjust the dose easily. One con is that you would need to inject these shots multiple times a month.
It is important to keep in mind that HRT is not for everyone. Some people may find that their hormone levels are very inconsistent with the delivery method. And some report that they do not feel good when on the injections. It is important to talk to your doctor to decide what is best for you.
Carboxytherapy
Carboxytherapy is a medical procedure that can help with genital rejuvenation. This procedure uses small injections of medical-grade carbon dioxide gas below the skin’s surface through a specially designed machine. This results in improvement within circulation, oxygenation, and nutrients within the treatment area.
Throughout a woman’s lifetime, the female genital organs go through many physiological changes and functional changes. Carboxytherapy is able to re-oxygenate and reactivate the metabolic and drainage processes that can be slowed down by aging. It can also help improve the cosmetic appearance, as tissue will regain plumpness. You will see less dryness and irritation and an improvement within sensation from the procedure.
Men that suffer from erectile dysfunction might seek carboxytherapy. This treatment can work to improve the vascular system and restore blood to the penis to allow an erection. The treatment also helps to improve circulation to the area and restore the function of the tissue.
Carboxytherapy is a newer treatment option and may not be for everyone. There are not any lasting side effects to be seen thus far. The procedure uses numbing cream beforehand, but should not result in any pain after. You may feel warm and tingly within the treated area for 24 hours after treatment, but should be able to return to your normal everyday routine after. As with any medical procedure, it is important to consult your doctor beforehand to determine what is best for you.
